“… The word of the L ORD came to Elijah in the third year...” (1 Kings 18:1b)

“And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces: and they said, ‘The L ORD, He is the God; the L ORD, He is the God.’” (1 Kings 18:39)

“… Go show thyself unto Ahab; and I will send rain upon the earth.” (1 Kings 18:1c)

“They that go down to the sea in ships …” (Ps. 107:23)

Elijah Claims a Promise

A personal promise made to Elijah.

Elijah Claims a Promise A personal promise made to Elijah. A conditional promise based upon Elijah’s obedience.

Then Elijah said to Ahab, “Go up, eat and drink; for there is the sound of abundance of rain” (1 Kings 18:41) Hebrew word translated “sound” is most often translated as “voice.”

Kneeling on the Promise 1)Elijah separated himself. “Elijah went up to the top of Carmel.”

“The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much. Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain; and it did not rain on the earth for three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the sky poured rain, and the earth produced its fruit.”(Jas. 5:16b-18)
