SLIPS, TRIPS AND FALLS

What is a Slip? + The loss of friction/traction speeds the body’s movement and results in the loss of balance.

Why Slips Occur + Loss of traction + Wet slick surfaces + Spills + Ice & snow

How to Prevent Slips + Wear proper footwear + Clean up spills + Treat slippery surfaces + Use caution

What is a Trip? + An object in the walkway stops the foot and the body’s momentum keeps it in motion.

How to Prevent Trips + Proper housekeeping provides walkways clear of clutter and litter. + Secure electrical cords and hoses. + Keep line of sight clear while walking.

What is a Fall? + A person moves outside of their center of balance and gravity is the force that pulls them down.

Why Falls Occur + Poor climbing habits + Misuse of a ladder + Poor access to work area + Make shift ladders or stools

How to Prevent Falls + Don’t jump from different elevations + Repair loose or broken stairs and handrails + Don’t use stairs and aisles as storage areas + Wear appropriate footwear + Use handrails + Walk don’t run + Inspect ladders before use + Use both hands on a ladder
