Workshop - The Integration in the European Research Area, Bucharest, October 26, Sample: "Inter-Disciplinary Research and Applications based on Nuclear and Atomic Physics" (IDRANAP) project, EC/FP5/INCO2 “Support for Centres of Excellence” IFIN-HH, Bucharest-Magurele,  excellence: results over ~40 years [former work conditions below worldwide standard]  failure: working conditions (Institute of Atomic Physics, Bucharest-Magurele) -e.g., no journal in 2002 within IAP library! -salary/month: ~ 180€(PhD student) -250€ (Assoc. Prof.) [partly/delayed] IDRANAP-guests working stages (3-6 months) : mainly formal / less efficient [visitors different appraisal:1000€ (PhD student) – 2400€ (post-doc)]  should be firstly replenished by the EC support of the IDRANAP project [actual contract: - only visits support - IDRANAP-staff visits:1 month/year/workpackage] 2. (RO) R&D results vs. work conditions vs.‘excellence’

Workshop - The Integration in the European Research Area, Bucharest, October 26, Future best : e.g., EC/FP5/INCO A1 " Strategic action on training and excellence " ( ) Most promising researchers from candidate countries:  A training period in a Member State (<2 years)  Possibility tobring back* the experience acquired(<1 year) 2. (RO) R&Dresults vs. work conditions vs.‘excellence’ (cont.) *Possible increased efficiency:reversal ratio of support periods: 1/2, 2/4, …

Workshop - The Integration in the European Research Area, Bucharest, October 26, Aims:  Preservation/development ofknowledge/capabilities at CEEC institutes  Integrate CEEC efforts into existing EC/JRC programs and EU networks  Expansion of EC/JRC activities by additional manpower and networking  Cost effectiveness: bringing together EC/JRC facilities & CEEC manpower Possible failure  if in the meantime (CEEC)RO instituteswill collapse ! 3.ENLARGEMENT : (inside) /outside actual EC (?)
