A student shot and injured the principal at Harrisburg High School near Sioux Falls, South Dakota, on Wednesday. Kevin Lein was wounded in the arm but is in good condition. The student, whose identity was not disclosed by police and has not yet been charged, was tackled by two school employees and is in custody. The incident happened when the student came into a main office and got into some kind of disagreement with the principal. There was a physical struggle and the teenager took out a firearm and shot Lein. The assistant principal and the school's athletic director quickly tackled the teenager. The school, meanwhile, went into its often drilled procedure with panic buttons pushed and students put in lockdown. "It's a shame that for years schools have been trying to prepare for this and you hope it doesn't happen in your backyard," the superintendent said.

In Other News The Bahamas is now dealing with a Category 3 storm, and -- if Joaquin hits the U.S. later this week as many suspect -- the East Coast could be facing an even stronger storm. Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin issued a 37-day stay of Richard Glossip's execution on Wednesday to allow the state time to address questions about execution protocol and the chemicals used for lethal injection. The new execution date is set for November 6. Glossip had been scheduled to die earlier Wednesday. He would have been the first person executed with a controversial sedative since the U.S. Supreme Court greenlighted its use this summer. One-third of a three-drug execution cocktail is a powerful sedative, often used for anesthesia, called midazolam. It's meant to cause unconsciousness, but opponents say it doesn't induce the deep unconsciousness necessary to prevent prisoners from experiencing the painful effects of the two other drugs in the protocol.
