Tent Pitching 1. Materials needed to pitch a tent: Equipment : Quantity : Remarks : 1 Inner Sheet 1-With door flaps at both ends and wall flaps on both sides. 2 Outer sheet 1 3 Ground sheet 1 4 Horizontal pole 1- Also known as “crossbar” 5 Vertical pole 2- Also known as “uprights” 6 Metal pegs 14 7Extra pegs/Mallet m twine 12- For corner and side guyline 9 2.5m twine 2- For main guyline

2. Recommended procedures to pitch a tent : 1 Erect the tent by Inserting the pins of vertical poles into the holes at two ends of the horizontal poles. Ensure that the vertical poles are perpendicular to the ground. Slip the inner sheet over the frame. 2 Start by securing the corner guylines. Tie one end of the 1.5m twine to the sleeve rings with a bowline. 3 Pull one end of the inner sheet so that the wall flap is just touching and perpendicular to the ground 4 Position of pegs: A.Inner sheet: place pegs on the ground perpendicularly from the corner of the tent sheets and from an ‘L’ shape on the ground. B.Outer sheet: leave one peg distance away from the position of the ‘inner pegs’ in the direction parallel to the to the breath of the tent layout. *Bird Eye View Legend : Length of 1 peg Inner pegs Outer pegs ----

5Pull the inner sheet and check that the corner peg of the inner sheet is facing the corner of the inner sheet 6Hammer the Pegs at 45 degree 7Anchor the other end of the twine to the peg using a tent guy loop 8Tighten the corner guylines of the inner sheet to the pegs, fastening pairs of diagonally opposite corner guylines at a time. After the four corner guylines have been tightened, hammer in the wall guyline pegs and then tie the two wall guylines. Ensure that the pegs on each side of the tents are in a straight line parallel to the wall flap. 9Ensure that the surface of the inner sheet is tight and the wall flaps are vertically upright and just touching the ground. 10Tie the two main guylines using an 2m long twine, to the pin of the vertical pole using a clove hitch. The distance of the peg from the base of a vertical pole would be the length of the vertical pole itself. Anchor the two main guylines using the same method as the corner and wall guylines. 11Drape the outer sheet over the inner sheet. Secure the four corner guylines and the two wall guylines similarly. The corner pegs of the outer sheet should be facing the pin of the opposite vertical pole. 12Unfold the ground sheet inside the tent and lay it flat. The sides of the ground sheet may be folded if necessary.

13Adjust the tension of the guylines if necessary. A well pitched tent should have a ventilation gap of approximately 6 inches between the inner and outer sheet Legend : 6-Inch
