K&I service objectives To plan and build a comprehensive world class health intelligence system covering conditions, risk factors and wider determinants to meet the needs of our key stakeholders To plan and implement the contribution that we will make to local authorities, the NHS, PHE centres and regions To build a Web Portal that meets the K&I needs of the users of PHE services To work with PHE directorates in order to understand and meet their knowledge and intelligence needs based on PHE priorities To create a culture within the KITs and NCIN that values excellence, quality and innovation and strives for continual improvement To build the 8 KITs and NCIN into a cohesive, integrated and high performing national function, operating as a single team 3

How should the local service be provided? Be responsive to local needs within available resources (need for prioritisation process) In a way that maximises potential for PHE products to be useful (be visible, 2-way dialogue to disseminate/support products and feed back comments) In conjunction with PHE Centres In partnership with other local players (e.g. Local PH teams, NHSCB LATs, CSUs and AHSNs) Consistently across KITs (i.e. everywhere in the country should expect to have access to the same level of service from their local KIT) Locally-negotiated enhanced service for a fee

What local services should be provided by KITs? Access to national products and services - indicators, profiles, tools and reports, etc Support for local use of national products (active dissemination, local interpretation/application, expert support, feed-back loop) Education, training and professional/ development support (e.g. facilitating local/regional intelligence networks) Access to public health intelligence expertise across national K&I service Analytical work programme to meet priority needs of local stakeholders –agreed with PHE centres West Midlands CKO Directorate Team Visit
