Interview Process Deadra McCray Ashford University EDU/650 Instructor: Wendy Ricci August 25, 2014

Education Philosophy Continual encouragement and motivation for all students Maintaining a safely and joyous environment Allowing students to utilize their critical thinking strategies Provide up-to-date technology tools and information to enhance learning Being students life coaches-sharing educational and personal experiences Providing clear written and verbal instruction to target each student learning ability Providing outside resources for students and parents to aid in their learning process and access to 24/7 my to answer questions Offering after school tutoring time for students

Education Philosophy cont’d Creating different teaching technology and strategies for students to learn Encouraging students to share and generate their own ideas and opinions Sharing and uplifting positive and negative feedback Honoring Common Core of Standards Classroom participation is mandatory Two of my favorite quotes on education philosophy are: “Teachers are the agents through which knowledge and skills are communicated and rules of conduct enforced.”-John Dewey (Experience and Education) “This is the road I have tried to follow as a teacher: living my convictions; being open to the process of knowing and being sensitive to the experience of teaching as a art; being pushed forward by the challenges that prevent me form bureaucratizing my practice; accepting my limitations, yet always conscious of the necessary efforts to overcome them and aware that I cannot hide them because to do so would be a failure to respect both my students and myself as a teacher.” Paulo Freine-(Padogogy of Freedom)

Classroom Management Plan Conduction one on one time with my students Create and secure and challenging environment Allowing group session where students can interact with peers Respect students and expect the same in return Lecturing, research projects, debates, class discussion, homework, skill building, etc. My classroom have light colors walls to produce a happy environment Place pictures, posters, bookshelves and drawing on walls All students are required to face me at all times- desks are place in center of classroom Students have to raise their hands to speak Students are required to clean up after themselves I place a copy of the nutrition pyramid for my students to see what kind of food are good for them First grade class take naps for 45 minutes Examples of Classroom Rules are: 1.No excessive talking 2.No horse playing 3.Hand in completed work assignments 4.Respect yourself, teachers, and peers 5.No use of profanity/inapprioate classroom conversation 6.No cheating 7.Classroom participation is mandatory

Classroom Management Plan cont’d Consequences if rules are broken: 1.1rst – verbal warning 2.2 nd - time out in class or another class, parent notification by note, , phone call 3.3 rd – parent notification/ conference/ office referral possible Final step- office referral Reward given daily or weekly as appreciate: 1.Positive note/ call home 2.Elite seat 3.Extra computer time 4.Stickers 5.Trip to the treasure chest (toys) These rules ensure that the student are attentive and focused on class material at all times. It’s imperative that these rules are implied and enforce to honor the curriculum and secures the classroom from outside distractions.
