Adaptations Final Project

SHELTER / HABITIAT A toucan lives in the hollow hole of a tree. Trees are EVERYWHERE in the rainforest, and provide great protection for the bird. As high as 9,000 feet toucans can be spotted in tropical America.

The toucan bill is perfect for picking berries and insects off trees in the rainforest and drinking water. The large bill is also used to attract mates and define its territory.

After sexual reproduction, the female toucan can lay 2-4 eggs a year. Both parents incubate the eggs for about two weeks. The offspring are unable to leave the nest for about 8 weeks so the parents must feed them.

Taxonomy of a Toucan Kingdom: Animalia Phylum: Chordata Class: Aves Order: Piciformes Family: Ramphastidae Genus: Several Species: About 40

Tucans have two claws in the front and two in the back, that help them stand on trees in the rainforest. Physiological Adaptation

Behavioral Adaptation If toucans do not fit into a hole to sleep, they curl their bodies into a dark ball to appear smaller.
