Parts to a Revolution Textual EvidencePurposeLiterary DevicesExplanation 1.Vision Page 15 Line 5- “Major’s speech had given to the more intelligent animals…” Without Old Major’s speech, the thought of vision is making the animals conscious about their life. An allusion is used here to make the reader attempt to make a connection to the spread of an idea. Old Major’s speech created a new perspective, for the animals, about life. 2. The Rising Fever Page 16 Paragraph 2- “Several nights a week, after Mr. Jones was asleep..” If the pigs had not spread the ideas of Old Major's speech, then it would have been a waste of breath. Logos- The pigs’ ideas and thoughts alter the other animals’ perspective and prove a point to the others by appealing to logic and reasons. The pigs communicated their thoughts on rebellion and Animalism to the other animals. 3. Ideas Turning Into Actions Page 18 Paragraph 3- “Now, as it turned out, the Rebellion was achieved much earlier…” This shows how once the idea of rebellion came, almost everyone was ready for it. Symbolism- The barn symbolized the incubation period of the revolution. “Beasts of England” symbolizes the vision they aspired to.. The pigs knew that sometime the rebellion would happen but they did not know when. Analysis (Level Two):

CrisisPage 19 Lines 2-5 of Paragraph 2- “On Midsummer’s Eve, which was a Saturday, Mr. Jones went into Willingdon and got drunk…” This shows when a government is put into a status of panic and crisis, it is doomed and almost always overthrown. Archetype: Mr. Jones being drunk is an archetype of many careless drunk leaders who usually let their nations crumble. T he animals couldn’t bare much longer because Mr. Jones was not tending on his farm and his men became careless. 5. Revolution Page 19 Paragraph 2- “Jones and his men suddenly found themselves being butted from all directions.” Once the realization of a change is needed, it will come as soon as the chance is apparent. George Orwell added parallelism to describe Jones’ and his mens situation with the animals. The animals break into the food supply and abandon Jones’ men from the farm. Continuing Analysis

Connections (Level Four): Shay’s Rebellion (Article): Animal Farm:Connection(s): “Many farmers in this area suffered from high debt as they tried to start new farms.” “The men had milked the cows in the early morning and then had gone rabbiting, without bothering to feed the animals. When Mr. Jones got back he immediately went to sleep...” The animals suffered because of Mr. Jones and his men being careless, while the farmers in the 1780s suffered from the government because they were taking away their farms. “These conditions led to the first major armed rebellion in the post-Revolutionary US.” “Now, as it turned out, the Rebellion was achieved much earlier and more easily than anyone had expected.” Both, Shay’s Rebellion and the rebellion of Mr. Jones and his men, were the first major rebellion to happen. “They called special meetings of the people to protest conditions and agree on a coordinated protest.” “Several nights a week, after Mr. Jones was asleep, they held secret meetings in the barn and expounded the principles of Animalism to the others.” The farmers, during the 1780s, called meetings to protest, while the animals held meetings for the pigs to explain the principles of Animalism.
