CENTRAL ARGUMENT AND ANALYSIS What is a central argument?  What is the main idea that is trying to be proven?  What is the main point that the author is trying to get across?  What is the focus/thesis of the piece of literature, speech, film, etc.?

DRAW INFERENCES FROM TEXT USING EVIDENCE What is an inference?  An educated guess or assumption made about a character, story, or topic based on the information from the text How do we use textual evidence?  Introduce: In the text, it states, “…..”  Cite: “……..” (Author’s Name Page Number).  Explain: This shows that….

ANALYSIS OF KEY DETAIL Analyzing a quote means describing the deeper meaning of a specific quote, or detail Example: Analyze this quote.
