BROOKLYN BRIDGE PARK micah sherman daniel martinez

transportation car – Brooklyn Queens Expressway pedestrian – Walk, Jog, Bicycle water – Ferry, Water taxi, Barges public – Subway, Bus destination Brooklyn bridge Empire-Fulton Ferry State Park Pier 17 Brooklyn Promenade Brooklyn Bridge Park site development The area around the Brooklyn Bridge has many components and relationships to the waterways of New York. It satisfies many transportation methods, including pedestrian, car, train, bus, and boat Ferries Car Subway

destination Brooklyn bridge The Brooklyn Bridge interacts with both pedestrian and vehicular traffic. The bridge will serve as the main connection into the park as it allows pedestrians to have direct access into the park from Manhattan. The bridge serves as the northern boundary of the park

destination Empire-Fulton Ferry State Park The Fulton-Ferry Park was built recently just north of the Brookln Bridge. It serves pedestrian traffic exclusively. The park is at the beginning of beginning of development for a whole waterfront of public green space along the Brooklyn side of the East river. By reusing facades of existing buildings as boundaries from neighboring streets the park is secluded from the existing surroundings and has very open access to the river

destination Pier 17 Pier 17 is a destination on the Manhattan side of the East River. It has direct connections via the Brooklyn Bridge, across the water on ferries and taxis, and public transportation with Subway stations close to both waterfront developments. Pier 17 as an existing commercial development will be well served by public park developments across the river. With numerous transportation connections, the draw of the park will reinforce the attraction of the Pier.

destination Brooklyn Promenade Brooklyn Promenade serves the Brooklyn Heights community as a pedestrian walkway above the East River. It currently overlooks the commercial and industrial Piers and has almost no physical connections to the waterfront. With development of public parks on the water there will be many opportunities for pedestrian connections to the waterfront green space. A public park development will dramatically improve the usefulness and aesthetics of the promenade

destination Brooklyn Bridge Park Brooklyn Bridge Park is the planned development of the East river industrial Piers. By redeveloping a neglected shipping center the Park Conservancy is dramatically altering the entire East River of lower New York. The possibility for connections into Manhattan from Brooklyn within this development is limitless. Water Taxis, increased foot traffic on the Brooklyn Bridge, Subway riders and many other visitors will have easy access to a much improved waterfront location.

The future 85-acre park will stretch 1.3miles along the East River from north of the Manhattan Bridge to Atlantic Avenue. The Park includes Piers 1 - 6, each approximately the size of Bryant Park, and their uplands. Brooklyn Bridge Park will transform this underused and inaccessible stretch into a magnificent public space filled with lawns, recreation, beaches, coves, restored habitats, playgrounds and beautifully landscaped areas. The Park will connect visitors to the waterfront and NY Harbor in extraordinary ways with floating pathways, fishing piers, canals, paddling waters and restored wetlands. This is the most significant park development in Brooklyn since Prospect Park was built 135 years ago. redevelopment Brooklyn Bridge Park

Housing is the most efficient and most park- compatible option to support the Park, producing reliably high revenue and taking up minimal land, as opposed to alternatives such as office buildings, parking lots, and large format retail (big box development)

Brooklyn Bridge Park will replace abandoned piers, parking lots, and storage sheds- that had once been slated by government for private development- with lawns, restored habitats, recreational fields and ball courts, water access, playgrounds and esplanades

Neighborhoods will benefit from Brooklyn Bridge Park. The Park will provide badly needed open space, recreation and access to one of the most beautiful and exciting urban waterfronts in the world. Legally-protected view planes, including the special Brooklyn Heights scenic view district, would be respected and enhanced. The proposed design for the park would open up an extraordinary sequence of views of the river, New York Harbor, the Manhattan skyline, surrounding landmarks and of the park itself from one end to the other Reference -
