HOW DOES NASA USE HYDRAULIC ARMS? Engineering Design Challenge

HYPOTHETICAL SCENARIO The Cygnus spacecraft will soon make an approach to the International Space Station (ISS), but the Canadarm is currently inoperable. An alternative hydraulic arm must be designed and constructed.

LET’S BEGIN OUR RESEARCH BY OBSERVING AN EXAMPLE OF AN HYDRAULIC ARM

HYDRAULIC ARM CHALLENGE Criteria Must be able to grapple Cygnus and dock to ISS (move object 20 cm to grid location) Constraints Materials: may modify design Consensus on design (diagram with specifications) by 5:00

ARM CHALLENGE ASSIGNMENTS Rotating Base CARVE Super Pressure Ballon ISS CREAM GPM Operation Ice Bridge Lifting Arm ATREX MAVEN LADEE Discover AQ HS3
