My Teaching Philosophy : An educator’s job is to teach students how to think, not what to think. It should be a teacher’s goal to develop creative, lifelong learners who have the necessary skills to be successful in any career they choose. I believe this can best be achieved through creating a learning environment in which students feel valued and are actively engaged. This class will not focus on memorizing names and dates, but key events and concepts along with the lessons they have for modern times. This class will equip students with the tools they need to think critically, determine essential thoughts/ideas, use evidence to support claims, determine cause- and-effect relationships, and communicate thoughts effectively.

In this class we will take a journey to the past and explore the different people, cultures, and ideas that built the foundation of modern society.

We will evaluate current events and explore their historical roots. We will discuss current conflicts and offer possible resolutions. We will experience history from multiple perspectives, engage in respectful exchanges of ideas, and be encouraged to go from being history students to history-makers!

This class follows the CHS MYP grading policy which can be found on our school website. Formative Assignments: Build knowledge and skills necessary to complete the unit project (e.g. classwork, homework, quizzes, etc.) Summative Assignments: Final unit projects/exams that demonstrate skills or knowledge the student has mastered All formative assignments may be viewed in PowerSchool. A detailed report of all summative grades will be reported on Managebac and will be the key factor in determining student’s final grade.

The following MYP score to percentage grade conversion chart may be useful in understanding student scores in Managebac: 8 = 100% 7 = 93% 6 = 88% 5 = 83% 4 = 78% 3 = 73% 2 = 68% 1 = 63% 0 = 50 or less
