Third Grade ACADEMIC UIL EVENTS

Students in a chess puzzle contest receive a paper-and-pencil test that includes a series of chess boards with pieces in particular positions. Students will analyze the information and choose possible moves for each diagram. CHESS PUZZLE

Students will listen to approximately 20 seconds of up to 20 musical selections. Students will identify the name of the major work, selection and the name of the composer. Spelling and punctuation count. MUSIC MEMORY

Students will be given two writing prompts. They will choose one of the prompts and respond to it. READY WRITING

Students will write down words given by the pronouncer. The contest consists of 50 words. SPELLING

STORYTELLING Students will listen to a storyteller read a brief story only once. Students will retell that story in their own words for the judges.

SPANISH STORYTELLING Students will listen to a storyteller read a brief story in Spanish only once. Students will retell that story in Spanish using their own words for the judges.
