Welcome to KPHS Choir! Throughout these activities, there are four strands we focus upon: (TEKS)  Music Literacy (Read & Write)  Creative Expression (Appropriately Interpret/Perform)  Historical/Cultural Relevance (Context of Artistry)  Critical Evaluation and Response (Honest and positive feedback)

Region Choir (All-State)  Like the middle school process, but extends all the way to the state level.  Students purchase packet of music, and learn pieces inside. Each round of auditions selects 3-4 pieces to audition.  Rounds: 4 - District, Region, Pre-Area, Area  All-State Choir – February, San Antonio, TX  Picture on the wall, Fame & Fortune

 Differences:  Music is more difficult  Audition cuts given at audition  Competing with adults (18 year olds)  Original copies of music Ultimately, the process is more difficult, but more rewarding. Region Choir (All-State)

 Students select whether to be in Solo, Ensemble, or both  Ensembles – Free (District Covers Entry Fees)  Solos - $25 (Accompanist, + District Covers Entry Fees)  Students who receive a score of a “One” on a class “One” Solo/Ensemble, are eligible to compete at State Level. UIL Solo & Ensemble

Voice Teachers/Camps  Students may choose to seek outside assistance from a coach who solely focuses on their voice.  Help with All-State Process.  Select Solo & Ensemble Repertoire.  Focus on individual growth.  By no means required, but certainly recommended.  List on the piano.

 Universities across Texas offer Choir Camps to help students excel in the All- State process.  KPHS Booster Club offers scholarships ($100) in the form of reimbursement.  Learn all of the All-State Music.  Get ahead of competition, prepared before year begins. Voice Teachers/Camps

Choir Trip 2017!  Each year the Choir takes an overnight trip – all choir students in good standing are invited.  Past trips include San Antonio, New York City, and Dallas.  The choir alternates In-state and Out-of- state trips.  Next year will be an In-State Trip, as this year we went out of state.
