MANIPULATING TEXT POWERED BY:

Working with Text in Adobe PageMaker  Working with text in Adobe PageMaker is very similar to working with a word processor program such as Microsoft Word. Two key differences, however, are that in PageMaker 7.0, you will use the Text tool and enter all your text into a text box. POWERED BY:

Working with Text in Adobe PageMaker PageMaker's Text Boxes  A text box is a "container" for your text. It is a confined area on your document that is designed to hold text. The text you type into your document will automatically be enclosed in a text box. You can determine the size by creating the text box before you begin typing. You can also resize and reposition your text boxes using the Pointer tool. POWERED BY:

Working with Text in Adobe PageMaker Creating a New Text Box  Click on the Text tool in the Toolbox.  Move your cursor back to your document. Your cursor will turn into an I-Beam once you move it over your document.  Click anywhere on your document within the margin guides, and then drag the mouse to the right to create a rectangular box.  Release your mouse when you have a text box of the size you want. Your cursor will automatically position itself inside the box.  Begin typing in your text. You may also paste text into the text box.  Once you are done typing in your text, simply click on the Pointer tool in the toolbox to de-select the text box. Quick Tip: If the text is too small for you to read when you start typing, click on the View menu and the select Zoom In. POWERED BY:

Working with Text in Adobe PageMaker Using the Text Tool to Edit your Text  Once you have created a text box and entered your text, you can then edit it much as you would in Microsoft Word. For this purpose, you will primarily use the Text tool and the Type menu.  Click on the Text tool from the toolbox.  Position the cursor at the beginning of the text you want to format.  Click and drag the I-beam across the text to select it.  Edit the selected text as follows: POWERED BY:

Working with Text in Adobe PageMaker To delete text  Tap the Delete key or simply start typing, which will replace the selected text.  Click on the Edit menu, and then select Clear. To copy or move the text  Click on the Edit menu  Select the Cut, Copy or Paste command To change the type style  Click on the Type menu  Select your desired option POWERED BY:

Working with Text in Adobe PageMaker Typing Large Amounts of Text  PageMaker is specifically designed as a desktop publishing application, and is therefore not very well- suited for typing large amounts of text. It is better suited for typing and formatting titles, headlines, captions as well as headers and footers.  If you have a lot of text to add to your document, you can use the Place command to import text from a word processor, such as Microsoft Word or WordPerfect, or you can use PageMaker's Story Editor. POWERED BY:

Working with Text in Adobe PageMaker USING TEXT FRAME  You can create text by using a frame tool or by converting any object you have created with the drawing tools except a line into a frame. Text frames do not change height or width as you add or remove text  Procedure: Click the text tool, click in the frame and then type or paste from the clipboard On the file menu, click place, double-click the file that contains the test you want to place in the text frame. When the cursor becomes a loaded icon, click inside the text frame to place the text. POWERED BY:

Working with Text in Adobe PageMaker Applying Stroke and Fill  Once you create a graphical object, you can enhance by applying stroke and fill.  Procedure Select the object you want to apply stroke and fill On the elements menu, either point to Stroke to apply a line style or fill to fill the object with a background colour or pattern. POWERED BY:

Working with Text in Adobe PageMaker Moving and Resizing text and graphical objects  Procedure: To move, click the object to select it, then position the pointer tool anywhere inside the text or object then drag the text or object to a new position To resize, select the object with the pointer tool, position the pointer on the selection handle and drag to the required size POWERED BY:

Working with Text in Adobe PageMaker Setting up a publication using master pages  Its important to lay out a common layout foundation for all pages for the sake of consistency and cohesiveness. These pages used to design a common layout to be applied in the other pages of the publication are called master pages or a document master  The document master applies to all pages in the publication until you specify otherwise, and cannot be renamed or removed from the publication. POWERED BY:

Working with Text in Adobe PageMaker Setting up a publication using master pages  To switch to master pages, simply click the master page icon(s) then: Place non-printing ruler guides on the master pages to help you place text and graphics accurately and consistently throughout your publication. Non-printing ruler guides are vertical or horizontal line s you place on the printable area. You place the guides by positioning the mouse pointer on the ruler, then dragging the guide to the required position. Create basic design elements on the master pages, including text and graphics that you want to appear on each page in your publication. POWERED BY:

Working with Text in Adobe PageMaker Setting up margin guides  Margin guides define the printable area  To change margin settings: On file menu, click document setup In the setup dialog: ○ Enter the values for inside and outside margins for a double sided document to accommodate bidding for a document that will be printed on both sides. For single sided pages, set the left margin and right margins ○ Enter the value for the top and bottom margins Click OK to apply changes POWERED BY:

Working with Text in Adobe PageMaker Displaying and hiding rulers  If rulers are not displayed, click view menu, then show rulers to display them. To hide rulers, click view menu, then hide rulers POWERED BY:

Working with Text in Adobe PageMaker Selecting ruler measurement units  You can choose which measurement units you want to use to setup your publication. Either millimeters, inches etc.  To set measurement units: Right click the ruler separately. A dropdown list displays available measurement systems; that is inches, decimal, millimeters, picas and Ciceros. Select the measurement system option you want to use POWERED BY:
