Analyze

Definition: Pick apart the pieces and examine (study) carefully. Example sentence: She analyzed the passage to determine the conflict of the story. Now come up with your own sentence.

Efficient

Definition: Work or function in the best possible way. Ex. Sentence: He is very efficient when it comes to packing the car before a trip.

Elaborate

Definition: Describe with details Ex Sentence: He elaborated on his statement by giving many examples.

Evaluate

Definition: Look at the evidence and make a judgment. Ex. Sentence: The judge evaluated their statements and decided to find them not guilty.

infer

Definition: Use prior knowledge to guess; make a “smart” guess. Ex. Sentence: I inferred from her mood that she did not have a good night’s rest.

objective

Definition: Not based on opinion, but on facts; fair judgment Ex. Sentence: A referee has to be objective when calling a game.

Persevere

Definition: Keep on trying; push through Ex. Sentence: When you persevere you will eventually be successful.

predict

Definition: To say something will happen before it does. Ex. Sentence: He predicted the end of the movie long before it was over.

retaliate

Definition: To get back at someone Ex. Sentence: He retaliated by scaring him the next night.

subjective

Definition: Based on opinion (could be unfair when feelings are involved) Ex. Sentence: A teacher should not be subjective when grading papers.
