F ORM ● What is Form? ● Forms are objects having 3-dimensions ● Geometric forms are used for decoration, uniformity, and organization ● Free-form forms are used to imply a naturalistic look

● Cut flowers are often classified by their forms and shape of the flower and their use in floral design.

F LOWER S HAPES ● Mass Flowers – single, large, round shape ● Filler Flowers – smaller, branched, or clustered & used in between the major flowers in a design ● Line Flowers – spike or linear shape ● Form Flowers – bold, graphic outline with a unique and distinctive shape.

W HAT IS S PACE ? ● Space is the element of art that refers to the emptiness, or area between, or within objects. ● Positive space is the shapes or forms in a 2 or 3 dimensional piece of art. ● Negative space is the empty spaces between the shapes or forms. ● Large negative spaces around positive spaces may express loneliness or freedom. ● Positive spaces crowded together may express tension or togetherness.

Space Lack of space represents togetherness, unity, and love. This sculpture represents this. The rectangular solid of their combined form reminds us of the solidity of their union.

Space The dark area represents the positive space of the item. The dark area represents the negative space around the item.

W HAT IS S IZE ? ● Size is the physical dimensions of line, form or space ● Darker colors, coarser textures, and visually heavier flowers can express heaviness. ● Bigger flowers go on the bottom, smaller flowers go on top
