My Greek Project By Jessie Foster

The age of the Greeks About 2,500 years ago, Greece was one of the most important places in the ancient world. The Greeks were great thinkers, warriors, writers, actors, athletes, artists, architects. The Greeks called themselves 'Hellenes' and their land was 'Hellas'. The name ‘Greeks’ was given to the people of Greece later by the Romans. They lived in mainland Greece and the Greek islands, but also in colonies scattered around the Mediterranean Sea. There were Greeks in Italy, Sicily, Turkey, North Africa, and as far west as France. They sailed the sea to trade and find new lands. The Greeks took their ideas with them and they started a way of life that's similar to the one we have today.

Entertainment The Greeks loved their entertainment. Loud open air theatres were all around. Stone seats surrounding the main act. The theatres are huge!

Zeus There were lots of Gods in Ancient Greece. Greeks believed that the gods lived on Mount Olympus and were once famous Olympians. Zeus was the king of all gods and the Greeks worshipped him the most. Hi! I’m Zeus.

HERA This is Hera. She is also one of the gods from Mount Olympus. I’m married to Zeus.

Gate of the Temple of Apollo, Naxos This doorway, symbol of the island, belonged to the temple of Apollo

Kouros statues Naxos has three ancient Kouros statues, from around 8th to 6th Century BC. Kouros means young male figures. This unfinished statue lies along the ground and is about 10.5 metres long. Archaeologists believe it was meant to be of the ancient Greek God Dionysus. That’s me!

I visited the ancient ruins on Crete. Ruins in crete
