Starter: The Marketplace…  Using the A3 paper provided create with your partner a diagram/word and picture bank on one of the influences/barriers to taking part.  Restrictions: –You can only use 20 words in whole. –You can only discuss your topic with the “Shoppers” for 2 mins- be concise! –You need to send a partner out to other shops to gather information for the test at the end!

The Influences/Barriers to Taking Part…  People- family, friends, role models?  Image- fashion and media coverage?  Cultural Factors- disability, age, gender, race?  Resources- availability, access, location, time?  Health and Wellbeing- illness and health problems?  Socio-economic- cost and status? The sports participation pyramid…  Foundation Level: The Base!  Learning/Experiencing new skills.  Acquiring good exercise habits for personal development and future participation in sport.

The sports participation pyramid…  Participation Level: The enjoyment factor!  Sports development contributes with the Top Programme, festivals, club/school links.  Sports clubs become more important at this stage as they help link to the next development.

The sports participation pyramid…  Performance Level: The Choice!  Young people begin to concentrate on sport specific skills and develop in specific sports.  Quality coaching is essential along with competition.  This can occur at local youth games, regional galas etc

The sports participation pyramid…  Elite/Excellence Level: The Peak!  Sporting excellence at its best.  The pyramid is narrow here as few people reach this level.  Governing bodies are in charge of development here as players pass from county, regional to national squads.

Where do you think you are?  Write down where you think you are any why for your and 2 of your friends sports.  Are you at the same level for any sports?

Finally…  What have you learnt from today’s session?  What are some of the key words?  Any Questions?  See you on Friday  See you on Friday
