Breaking Up

How do break ups affect people adversely?

The following are common symptoms of breaking up.

1. Depression You feel sad ALL the time You can’t keep your mind on anything else You may have trouble sleeping You may have strong self-doubt You may cry a lot (or at least feel like it)

2. Loneliness You feel alone and like nobody understands It feels like you are lost without that other person

3. Living in the Past You play “your song” over and over You read old notes and look at their picture all the time You may go out of your way to go places to bring back memories of happier times You go out of your way to see or talk to them

4. Anger You are MAD!: –At your ex for dumping you –At yourself for getting hurt –At the whole world because it’s in your way –At your family and friends because they keep asking you what’s wrong

5. Out of Control Feelings or Actions When your anger towards your ex turns harmful, you are out of control Revenge driven Spreading rumors or hurtful gossip Harassment

6. Hurting Yourself or Others Trying to hurt yourself to get attention You have violent feelings because the pain you feel is so strong You may even think that suicide is the answer to “get even” If you are so upset that you want to hurt yourself or others, you must get help right away!!!

It is ok to be mad, but it is NOT ok to let your anger get out of control. Find positive ways to deal with your anger and move on.

What are some ways to not have a break up be UGLY?

Here are some things not to do: Look for another relationship to fill the hole Dwell on the past, and carry this baggage to your next relationship Participate in unhealthy activities to heal your pain Not deal with the emotions that are present Get back together with that person, because it’s easy

How To Break-Up With Someone the Right Way

1. Pick An Appropriate Place 2. Choose the Right Time 3. Do It In Person 4. Be Honest, But Sensitive 5. Keep Your Emotions in Check

Can you think of GOOD THINGS that can happen because of break ups?

Musical Fuzzy Discussion Each group will get a fuzzy. Whoever has the fuzzy is the one that gets to talk. When the music goes, pass the fuzzy around clockwise. Stop when the music stops. (I will do this only 4 times) The person with the fuzzy will get a paper slip out of the bag and read it out loud to the group. They will then tell their first reaction to what the slip said. When they are done speaking, pass the fuzzy to the next person that wants to talk.

Self-Help Pamphlet Pretend for a minute that you’re a counselor at a clinic. You want to help people know how to deal with breakups. Write a self help pamphlet that will address how to deal with a break up effectively.
