Monographs acquisitions at UWA after the WAGUL consortium agreement

Collection development strategy Coutts approval plan 2.Patron Driven Acquistion (PDA) model with EBook Library (EBL) 3.E-preferred.

Factors affecting post-WAGUL acquisitions strategy Financial considerations Changing landscape in provision of ebooks Migration to Alma from Millennium at the end of 2014 Feedback in student surveys.

Post-WAGUL agreement PDA with EBL continues to be a vital part of the strategy: Profile refined in order to control costs while making the most appropriate titles available Content is removed from UWA’s PDA pool if: the short term loan (STL) cost ≥ 30% of list price the publisher does not offer STLs.

Post-WAGUL agreement Trial of Access to Own pilot in ProQuest’s Ebook Central when this becomes available. Access to Own conditions: For front list titles: auto purchase on the 2 nd STL 1 st and 2 nd STLs each cost 55% of list price

Post-WAGUL agreement Publisher evidence based acquisition models Essentially: Publishers make a large corpus of titles available in return for an up front fee Titles to the value of the upfront fee are purchased in perpetuity at the end of a nominated period. These models are analysed for value and quality as and when they become available.

Post-WAGUL agreement Ebook aggregators Books at JSTOR DDA EBSCO DDA acquisitions model

Post-WAGUL agreement Moving to YBP and their Gobi database for the following reasons: Ability to order ebooks for access on publisher platforms as well as aggregator platforms To take advantage of the Alma/Gobi API which automates ordering material on Gobi YBP’s multi-platform PDA model.

Conclusion Monographs acquisitions after the WAGUL agreement is focused on: Reducing costs and maximising return on investment Ensuring that resources meet the needs of staff and students Ensuring that workflows are as efficient as possible Monitoring and assessing new models and offers for ebooks.
