June 2009 Librarians 2009 Summer Institute No Librarian left behind! Really… we mean it. Social bookmarking is so easy even the technological challenged can do it!!!

June 2009 Diigo & Delicious… “The tastiest bookmarks on the web!!!”  What is this and why use it???  Diigo and Delicious are social bookmarking sites.  They provide an easy and free option for organizing your favorite websites. You can even import your existing favorites.  Bookmarking sites allow you to access your bookmarks from any computer!

June 2009 Still not convinced???  Social bookmarking is a method for Internet users to store, organize, search and manage bookmarks of web pages on the Internet.  In a social bookmarking system, users save links to web pages that they want to remember and/or share.  Most social bookmarking services encourage users to organize their bookmarks with informal tags. (Wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_bookmarking)

June 2009 How does it work?  View the great video for an explanation:  plain-english plain-english  View the underwhelming video for a less stimulating explanation:  aJ8 aJ8

June 2009 Let’s take a closer look….  Delicious  Save your own or see what’s fresh now! 

June 2009 Let’s take a closer look….  Diigo  Diigo is a “powerful research tool and a knowledge- sharing community.” It is a “next generation social bookmarking and annotation service where you can highlight, tag, add sticky notes and comment on any WebPages.”  Diigo greatly improves how people discover, remember, collaborate, and share on the Internet. 

June 2009 Are there other social bookmarking options???  Take a look at all of these choices!!!  kmarking_websites#Social_bookmarking kmarking_websites#Social_bookmarking

June 2009 Ready… Set… Go!!!  That’s it! Now you are ready to set up your own account and explore!  Let’s get started by doing a quick search “scavenger – style” to get familiar with the sites.

June 2009 Thanks for attending!  PD Central evaluations will be available within 24 hours.  Don’t forget to visit the Institute Wiki or Blog.  Was there anything from this session you would like to add to your session Reflection Form? Your Personal Growth Plan? Your LMC Technology Plan?

June 2009 Thank You!!!
