Our role play area We use our imagination in all of our work which helps us to write stories and make different items to play with. This term we have used the books ‘The Aliens love underpants’ and ‘The aliens are coming!’ to explore and investigate space stories. We decorated our role play area to make it into an alien planet. We made colourful leaves and flowers that you may find on a different world somewhere in the universe. Our role play area also helps us to play well together and learn to share toys and ideas.

By changing the autoshape settings, the paper can be any colour or texture you choose What planets are in our solar system? We hung the planets in the classroom in order from the sun. We know the sun is the biggest object in our solar system. We named the planets with the help of our solar system song and labelled them. We know that there are 8 planets in our solar system and Pluto is now a Plutoid which is made up of three asteroid rocks at the edge of our solar system. We can identify Earth because it has both land and sea on it. We can identify Mars because it is the red planet. We can identify Saturn because it has rings. We know Neptune because it is the bluest planet furthest from the sun. We know Jupiter because it is the biggest planet. We also found a solar system song for children on youtube that has helped us to learn more facts about each planet in a fun way. There is also the ‘beautiful world’ song that gives us information about our planet and the ‘time to shine’ song all about the moon. We love these songs but our favourite is the rap song about the planets in our solar system. We think these are funny!

By changing the autoshape settings, the paper can be any colour or texture you choose We made spaceships out of lego. We made alien landscapes. We watched Tim Peake go into space live on our interactive whiteboard. We ordered pictures about the launch. We made our own aliens. This one has a pop up eye.

By changing the autoshape settings, the paper can be any colour or texture you choose We found an alien spaceship in our classroom! We also found a letter from Zog and he needs our help to find out about animals from our planet, including humans. He liked our work on rhyming words and left us a poem about humans. We decided to help Zog with his mission and labelled different parts of ourselves to help Zog understand us better.

By changing the autoshape settings, the paper can be any colour or texture you choose We found nuts and bolts near Zog’s spaceship and found out they are magnetic. We use these in our role play area to fix things. We think that Zog uses these in his spaceship. We have written questions to Zog and have made things for him to see in our classroom. Zog sent a letter back answering all of our questions.

By changing the autoshape settings, the paper can be any colour or texture you choose We made our own rockets to go to the moon and spaceships for us to visit other planets. We drew pictures of aliens visiting our planet, Earth. We have learnt about Neil Armstrong and the first successful mission to the moon. We know there’s no gravity in space so the astronauts float. We know there is less gravity on the moon so astronauts can jump further on the moon than we can on Earth. We pretended to be astronauts and described how we felt about going in a rocket and launching into space.

We used headphones to listen to different music and identified the instruments used. We investigated humans senses for Zog. We used our hands to feel items in a bag to find out what they were. We tasted sweets to identify the flavour. We smelt crisps to identify the flavour.
