An Overview Training & Development Opportunities Coventry University

iCoCo The Institute of Community Cohesion was established in 2005 to provide a new approach to race, diversity and multiculturalism. iCoCo is a not for profit partnership, which aims to build capacity at all levels and in all local and national agencies to promote community cohesion. Coventry University

Community Cohesion: 2001 The Concept Emerges Riots in Burnley, Oldham and Bradford The Cantle Report Community Cohesion, The Report of the Independent Review Team, 2001 “Parallel Lives” Polarised & Segregated Communities Coventry University

2002 LGA issued guidance on Community Cohesion Government became active on the issue: Local Government Agency (LGA) Office of the Deputy PM Home Office Commission for Racial Equality Inter Faith Network LGA published guidance document. Community Cohesion Panel established. Coventry University

2005 iCoCo Established Partnership between: Coventry University De Montfort University The University of Warwick University of Leicester Supported by the DCLG Coventry University

2006 Commission on Integration & Cohesion (CIC) Independent Advisory Body “to explore how different communities and places in England are getting along, and what more might be done to bring people together - respecting differences, but developing a shared sense of belonging and purpose” CIC produced “ Our Shared Future” Coventry University

Aftermath of the CIC report Government issued various responses in the form of new guidance. CIC Report consolidated the Cohesion Agenda. New Framework here to stay. National Indicators in the Comprehensive Area Assessment (CAA) system (NI 1, 2, 13 & 35) NI 1 % people who believe people from different backgrounds get along well together in their local area.
