Mount Rushmore Faces in Stone George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln.

An Idea for a National Monument attract more visitors to the Black Hills area in the 1920s Gutzon Borglum chosen as the sculptor monument with faces of the four famous presidents started with drawings and sketches, and then made small models of the monument “A monument’s dimensions should be determined by the importance to civilization of the events commemorated……” - Gutzon Borglum

Construction of the Monument 400 men and women 1927 Dynamite used to sculpt 90% of the monument

Construction, continued completed in 1941 by Borglum’s son because Borglum died
