ANGER MANAGEMENT

What is anger? Anger is an emotional state that varies in intensity from mild irritation to intense fury and rage. EVERYONE FEELS ANGRY AT SOME POINT!!!

EXPRESSING ANGER The natural way to express anger is to respond aggressively. Anger inspires powerful, often aggressive, feelings and behaviors

Dealing with anger People use a variety of both conscious and unconscious processes to deal with their angry feelings. 3 main approaches are EXPRESSING, SUPPRESSING AND CALMING.

ANGER Expressing your angry feelings in an assertive- not aggressive- manner is the healthiest way to express anger. to do this you need to learn how to have clear needs, and how to meet them without hurting others.

Unexpressed anger Suppressed anger can create other problems. You will find yourself constantly putting others down, critizing everything, and making cynical comments. If you have suppressed anger you are not likely to have many successful relationships

Calming By calming down inside you are not just controlling your outward behavior, but also your internal responses. (taking steps to lower your heart rate)

Why people get angry People get angry for many reasons. Everyone has a reason why something bothers them. Find the root of the problem!!!

When dealing with anger 1) Cool off, stay calm count to ten (forwards or backwards) walk away take a deep breath

continued 2) Give yourself some time to sort things out. write the problem down on paper think it through talk it over with a friend or adult you trust

continued 3) Turn your angry energy into a change for the better. tell how you fee to the person making you angry channel your angry energy into physical activity try to solve the problem try to accept situations you can’t change.
