Text: Suzuki Swift Dominant Image Layout Words Images Techniques Target

1.Explain how colour has been used to make people want to buy the Suzuki Swift.

The main colours of blue and red attract the reader's eye because they are bright and vibrant. Bright colours also link to the idea that the car is a fun car to own.

The colour of the man's shorts and his soccer ball are similar to the colour of the car which helps the reader make the connection between having fun while playing a game and having fun while driving the car.

2.Explain how the font style of the word 'swift' makes people want to buy the car.

The font leans forward which suggests that the car is fast and connects to the brand name, 'Swift'. The font is also sleek in its design which gives it a modern look and this implies that the car is the latest model.

3.Identify the verbal feature 'wanna play?' and explain how it combines with the picture to make people want to buy the Suzuki Swift.

Colloquial language + picture: These combine to show the reader that the car is built for a relaxed lifestyle. The colloquialism is casual and this emphasises the fact that the type of people who would want the car live active lives that are not all about working. The verbal feature could be any one of the following: colloquial language, use of questions, or minor sentence.

Use of questions + picture: These combine to challenge the reader by suggesting the Suzuki Swift is ready to play and that all you have to do to join the 'game' is to buy the car.

Minor sentence + picture of car: These combine to make a dramatic impact on the reader. The short sentence focuses the reader's attention on the challenge to buy a car that would be fun to own and the picture reinforces the dramatic impact by having it appear as if it has come alive and is ready to play.

4.Identify the underlined verbal feature 'powered by a hot new 1.5 litre WT engine’ and explain its effect.

The verbal feature is jargon. This emphasises the car's power and that it is the latest in technology. This makes the reader feel like he or she is buying the best possible product. The use of jargon also implies that the reader is in the know about the car's capabilities and the technical terminology makes the advertiser's claims about the car more valid.

5.Identify any other of the 5 underlined features.

1.got the kind of get up and go = alliteration 2.knows how to rock = personification 3.you = personal pronoun 4.call = imperative 5.Way of Life! = slogan / minor sentence
