6 th Grade Math

 “Add 6 to a number named x” “Subtract 7 from a value called y”

 “2 times a number named z and add 3”  “Halve a number called t and then subtract 4”

 This activity will ask you to write the expression on the white board after agreeing with your partner

 “Take 5 away from 2 times a number named y”

 “6 more than a number named s”

 “7 less than half a number named r”

 “Double a number called u and then add 17”

 “Thrice a number named h and then halve it”

 “19 less than a sixth of a number named w”

 “Subtract 6 from a number called I”  Evaluate the expression when I equals 5  Evaluate the expression when I equals 18

 “23 plus 4 times g”  Evaluate the expression when g equals 3  Evaluate the expression when g equals 6

 Get in a group of three.  You will be given one of the problems from the following slide.  You and your two group members will become experts on your given expression.  You will show the rest of the class how to write and solve your expression

1. “Subtract 4 from a number called k” Evaluate for k equals 5 2. “Twice a number called g plus 5” Evaluate for g equals 2 3. “Half a number called q and then add 6” Evaluate for q equals 3 4. “A number called b times 4 and then add 16” Evaluate for b equals 3 5. “6 less than a number called t plus 5” Evaluate for t equals 4

 “Subtract 4 from a number called k” Evaluate for k equals 5

 “Twice a number called g plus 5” Evaluate for g equals 2

 “Half a number called q and then add 6” Evaluate for q equals 3

 “A number called b times 4 and then add 16” Evaluate for b equals 3

 “6 less than a number called t plus 5” Evaluate for t equals 4
