The De Montfort School Welcome to the Year 11 Parents’ Information Evening

The aim of this evening - support

The evening will enable us to: Explain how we are reassuring and preparing your son/daughter for their examinations Explain very clearly our expectations of conduct during examinations Give your son/daughter their individual examination and revision timetables Provide extra ideas on revision techniques and other ways in which you can support your son or daughter Address any concerns

Year 11 – update Lets reflect on the Year Very Proud of Year 11 Attendance = 92.8% (over a percent more than last year) AtL – has improved every Assessment point Number of students with 5 good GCSE’s rising Progress Baseline) ) ) )0.04 3a)0.06 4) 0.14

Exam Stress A little bit of stress can be a good thing as it motivates us to knuckle down and work hard. But exams can make stress levels get out of hand, which can stop us from performing our best. So it's important to address it and get it back under control.

Ideas to help restore calm…. Learn to recognise when stressing out Avoid comparing your abilities with your mates Eat right Sleep well Exercise Quit the bad habits Panic is often triggered by hyperventilating - Deep breath in and out through the nose Steer clear of any exam 'post-mortem'

Revision Tips Make a plan Know your stuff Look for fresh sources of info other than class notes. Revise with a friend and see if you can figure it out together (be careful you don't just distract each other!). Ask your teacher for help - they might even be running some revision classes. Staying focused Find a quiet place at home where you won't be distracted by your family, TV or Twitter. Take short breaks every hour or so to give yourself a rest. Drink water and eat healthy snacks to keep your brain ticking over. Set yourself up with a reward after every revision session. The night before Avoid revision the night before. You'll just stress yourself out trying to cram it all in at the last minute. Complete your revision plan early, relax for the rest of the day, read over your notes and try to get an early night. On the day On the day of the exam, don't try testing yourself on specific. Don't think about passing or failing. Good luck!
