The Battle of Gettysburg By: Katie Lewis, Nataleigh Hart, Heath Overton, and Austin Williams

Why did the battle take place?  to stop slavery  because General Lee wanted to invade the North again  to avert another federal offense in Virginia

Where did the battle take place?  Gettysburg, Pennsylvania

What was the significance of the battle?  The Confederate was close to winning until the Union overpowered them and won the war.

When did this battle take place?  July 1 st of 1863 – the 3 rd of July 1863 July 1 st, The first shot fired three miles North West of Gettysburg at intersection of Knoxlyn Road. July 2 nd,1863- There was a frequent firing by Pickett’s. On the Confederate side, Pickett’s division and Staurt’s three cavalry brigades arrive. July 3 rd, After three long days of fighting, the Confederate came close to winning, but in the end the Union won The Battle of Gettysburg.

How was this battle fought ?  This battle was fought with muskets and cannons

Who were the important men of the battle?  Union - General George Gordon Meade  Confederate - General Robert E. Lee

Who were the important women of the battle?  Although their actions rarely made it to history books, women were significantly involved in and around the epic battle of Gettysburg.
