U.S. bombs ISIS in Syria

The United States and several Arab nations rained bombs on ISIS targets in Syria last night our time-- the first U.S. military offensive in the war-torn country and a forceful message to the militant group that the U.S. would not stand by idly while it carried out its rampage of terror. The airstrikes focused on the city of Raqqa, the declared capital of ISIS' self-proclaimed Islamic State. But other areas were hit as well. The operation began with a flurry of Tomahawk missiles launched from the sea, followed by attacks from bomber and fighter aircraft. The goal: Taking out ISIS' ability to command, train and resupply its militants. The number of casualties was not immediately clear. But U.S. Central Command said the 14 strikes damaged or destroyed ISIS targets including fighters, training compounds, command-and-control facilities, a finance center and supply trucks. For months, civilians in Raqqa have been living under the harsh rule of ISIS after militants took over their city, which had been one of the nation's most liberal cities. The group now controls much of their lives, imposing a strict brand of Sharia law and doling out barbaric punishments, such as beheadings and crucifixions. Opposition activists inside Raqqa, said that residents were elated to see the U.S. attacking ISIS targets there. Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan and Qatar all assisted with the operation.

In Other News If Mars Orbiter Mission, also known as Mangalyaan, successfully enters Mars' orbit, India would become the first Asian nation to do so. To date, only the U.S., Europe and the Soviets have successfully sent spacecraft to Mars. A live telecast will be available starting 6:45 a.m. Indian Standard Time (9:15 p.m. EST) on the Indian Space Research Organization's (ISRO) website. The entry into Mars' orbit is expected at 7:21 a.m. in India (9:51 p.m. EST). The spacecraft launched on November 5, and has traveled over 215 million kilometers to get near Mars. Its mission is to orbit the Red Planet, mapping its surface and studying the atmosphere. The Three Afghan National Army officers -- guests of the U.S. military at a training exercise in Massachusetts – who disappeared on Saturday, reappeared Monday in the custody of Canadian border guards. The men are in custody at the Rainbow Bridge, a checkpoint on the border at Niagara Falls, and are being interviewed by federal authorities. Kris Jenner made official that her marriage to Bruce Jenner is over. The Kardashian family matriarch cited "irreconcilable differences" with her husband of 23 years in a divorce petition filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court Monday. Kris Jenner, 58, is offering joint custody of their only minor child, 17-year-old Kylie, but she wants to keep all of her earnings since their legal separation on June 1, 2013, according to the court document. Her petition opposes any spousal support from her to him. The split is no surprise, since the reality TV couple publicly acknowledged their separation last year.
