Ariel and Workflows are more interdependent in the new process. What’s new for libraries with scanners?

What is the connection? This will become clear when we go through examples. Used for updating the request status and changing the messages in the User’s Self Services page. Some procedures are determined by information that will already be in the Ariel Archive Queue. Used for scanning and posting to the web. Web Delivery requires input of the patron’s name and the article title from Workflows.

This is a two system process: This is a two system process.

Students: scanning yes, workflows, no.

ALEX_IMSERV………… ALEX…………………… ANNEX………………… CHANG………………… DANA…………………… DGLSS………………… ILS_ALEX……………… KILMER………………… LSM……………………… ROBESON……………… The Ariel Address Book

Scan the document into your archive. The file name should match the request number on the request printout. If the request is determined to be a paid service the person scanning should append a “P” to the file name in Ariel. This indicates that it will be a Paid request. It is important to have this “P” there to make sure that it is processed as a paid request in Workflows. Scanning: Important!

For the detailed work. Let’s go through two examples. One free request One paid request

Go into WorkFlows and bring up the request to be filled. Workflows & Ariel process: Example 1: Free request. The service library is Alexander and the Patron’s home Campus is Newark.

Go to the Reply tab. Change the status to RU-A-FILD. You will know it is a free request because there is no “P” at the end of the file name in Ariel. Fill in the Reply field with your Keyboard Express Macro. Modify Request: Reply Tab Reply Macro: Your article will be posted to the Web shortly. You will receive an notice with instructions for retrieving it when it becomes is available. If you have any questions about this service, please read our Web Delivery FAQ at: edu/rul/lib_servs/web_doc_ del_faq.shtml edu/rul/lib_servs/web_doc_ del_faq.shtml

Return to the Request tab. Click MODIFY when done. Take note of the Patron’s name. You will need to input this later. Highlight the article title and hold Ctrl+C to copy the text. These steps are new and are important for web delivery in Ariel.

Now, go back into Ariel and double click on the request you want to send. This will bring up the Archive Queue Entry box. Fill in the Patron’s name. Click on the Bibliographic button. Final Steps Insert Patron’s Name, (including middle initial).

This will bring up the Bibliographic Description box. Paste the article title into the Title field by holding Ctrl+V, then click OK. Bibliographic

You will be asked if you want to save current changes. Click Yes. You will now be back at the Ariel Archive Queue. Make sure the request that is highlighted is the one you were working on. Save Changes

From the Document pull-down window select Send. Send to the Patron’s home campus posting station (New Brunswick/ Piscataway=Alex Imaging Services, Newark=Dana, Camden=Robeson). Send to Posting Station

Fill in the Reply field with your Keyboard Express Macro and Click Modify. Modify Request: Reply Tab If the Ariel record shows that the request is over 30 pages, as in this case, indicate how many pages in the notes field.

Return to the Request tab. Click MODIFY when done. Take note of the Patron’s name. You will need to input this later. Highlight the article title and hold Ctrl+C to copy the text. These steps are new and are important for web delivery in Ariel.
