Information for Children and Parents trips/hostel/whitby

 Travel is by 2 mini buses and a luggage van

 9.15am Depart from HPS  10.45am-11.00am Toilet / mini-bus stop at Pickering  Arrival- 12 noon at Abbey House YHA  Check in, leave luggage and have fire and safety talk.  Eat packed lunch provided by school.  1.15pm- ACTIVITY- Whitby Town Trail (Room 13) - warm clothes will be needed.  4.15pm- Return to Hostel, go to rooms, unpack and MAKE BEDS  5.15pm- Evening Meal in the Restaurant  6.15pm- ACTIVITY- Crabbing from the Harbour -warm clothing needed.  7.30pm- finish.  9.30 Hot choc and biscuits  10.00pm Bedtime

 7.45am- Breakfast- served in the Dining Room.  9.15am- ACTIVITY- Coastal Processes.  12.15pm- Packed lunches provided, to be eaten in Abbey House Garden or inside.  1.15 pm- Visit Pannet Park Museum –  5.15pm- Evening Meal in the Restaurant  6.15pm – Walk around Whitby – visit the whale bones, explore the beach and harbour etc.  9.30 Hot choc and biscuits  10.00pm Bedtime

 7.45 am Breakfast in Dining room.  Children pack and strip bed linen and put in laundry carts on landing.  9.00am- Whitby boat trip – through the harbour and out the sea (if the sea is calm) or through the harbour up the river Esk.  12 noon children eat packed lunch provided by hostel on mini-bus  3.00pm arrival at school expected by the end of the school day.

Sleeping Arrangements All children have created a list of up to 4 other children they would like to share with – all children have at least one (in most cases all) of these designated friends in their room. Children will receive their room number on arrival!!!

Meals- Weds Lunch- Packed Lunch brought from home Please pack a good sized packed lunch in a disposable bag (no tupperware/spoons etc) with a re-sealable drink. No fizzy drinks/ No glass bottles/ No Nuts etc. This is to be carried in a small back pack that the children will be required to carry with them when out of the hostel throughout the three days.

 Geography Coastal Walk, looking at coastal processes such as erosion which will be part of our new geography topic  Crabbing in the Harbour - A true seaside activity that is surprisingly addictive. Children work in pairs with lines, catch buckets and dip nets.  Whitby Town Trail - Room 13 - Discover the locations that inspired the author of ‘Dracula’ when he visited Whitby in the 1890s and link it to our focused class book – Room 13.

 Boat Trip An exciting boat trip through the Harbour and up the river to consolidate features of our previous topic– Life jackets will be worn for this adventure!  Pannet Park Museum - is a treasure trove of local artefacts, objects, documents, books, maps, photographs, and paintings about Whitby.

 These will all need to have a signed medical form and given to an adult on the morning that we travel- this includes travel sickness tablets.  All medication should also be clearly labelled with name and dosage.

Whitby May 2016 Kit List  A small holdall to carry:  Towel  Clothes suitable for ALL weathers including socks and underwear, enough for 3 days with some spares in case they get wet.  Night clothes & Teddy  Wash bag complete with toiletries and hair brush  Indoor shoes / slippers  Sturdy walking shoes / boots  Warm waterproof coat – we will be outdoors in all weathers  Waterproof pants- if you have them, they will be extremely useful as we will be going to our activities- whatever the weather!  Hat, scarf, gloves, cap, sun cream for all weathers!

 Small water bottle – refillable to carry yourself  Medication if required – please ensure you fill FORM available from school office.  Spending Money - £5 in a named envelope  Camera – If you wish, at your own risk, to be kept in a named carrier  Packed Lunch for Wednesday lunchtime  Back pack (to use throughout the trip to carry own packed lunches camera etc) this should be taken on the mini-bus with Wednesdays packed lunch in PLEASE DO NOT BRING – Ipod/ Ipad/ Mobile Phones/ Tablets or electronic devices

 This is limited to £5 and there is some small gift shops for the children to do a little bit of shopping, for themselves or a family member.  Please do not send your child with extra money, or food, with them on the trip –**with the exception of a packed lunch on the Wednesday – in a disposable bag. **
