The buckeye is a butterfly which belongs to the family of NYMPHALIDAE or BRUSH-FOOTED butterflies. This butterfly is found in southern Manitoba,Ontario,Quebec and Nova Scotia and parts of United States and common in California coast,Central America and Colombia. The upperside of the wings is brown, there are patterns of eyespots and and white bars can be seen on the wings. The eyespots are mainly to distract the predators. The summer version of wings are yellowish in color and in cool temperature they have reddish brown wings with less markings. These butterflies feed on nectar and fluids from the mud. During the day males perch on low plants or bare ground to watch for females. They fly periodically to chase other flying objects.
