P.O.D. What can I do today to help some one else be successful.?

Types of seedless plants

Vascular & Non- vascular

All Non-vascular plants have two parts :

#1: They all have leafy stalks #2: RHIZOIDS. holds the plants in place and help get food. Above the ground

All vascular plants with out seeds have two parts :

#1: They all have leafy stalks #2: RHIZOME (different from the rhizoid). These are stems into the ground

3 Characteristics of a seeded plant :

#1 : Has seeds : protects & feeds sporophyte

# 2 : Gametophyte lives in the sporophyte

REMINDER : separate gametophyte & sporophyte in seedless

In a seed

#3 seedless plants need water for reproduction & seeded do not.

Seeds have three main parts.

#1 Gametophyte (the baby plant)

#2 Seed coat

#3 Cotyledon (food storage)

Two types of Seeded plants :

Non-flowers (Gymnosperms) & Flowers (Angiosperms)

Gymnosperms (non-flowers are) are :

Pine tree

Cycads

Ginkos

4 stages of the life cycle Gymnosperms (plants have both male & female parts)

#1) the male part releases pollen which the wind carries to another tree.

#2) The pollen fertilizes the egg and makes the seed.

#3) The seed flies away or falls on the ground.

#4) The seed grows into a new plant and it starts over.

Angiosperms (flowered plants) are :

Rose Bush

Apple tree

Peach Tree

Only one difference in flowering plants life cycle. (stage One)

#1) the male part releases pollen which insects carry to another plant.

#2) The pollen fertilizes the egg and makes the seed.

#3) The seed flies away or falls on the ground.

#4) The seed grows into a new plant and it starts over.

Group work : In pairs you will create a poster showing a flowering plant’s life cycle on Thursday.

Homework: in complete sentences. Homework: Homework: page 385 #2.a.b. and #3.a.b.c. in complete sentences.
