Indian Captive By Marlena B.

Themes One theme was nature. Molly Jemison learned the respect the Seneca had for the forest and animals. Patience is another theme. Molly had to wait to realize where she wanted to be. A theme was change. Over time through the book, Molly changed to from a scared girl to a strong one. Sacrifice is one more theme. Many people in the book—including Molly— had to sacrifice for Molly’s happiness. The last friendship. Molly made many friends and without them wouldn’t been able to ever be happy.

Plotline Exposition The Jemison Family hears rumors of Native Americans near Marsh Creek Hollow Scene The family is captured by Native Americans Scene Molly is taken from her family to Seneca Town and begins to learn about them Scene Josiah receives a canoe and escapes in it while the women are at the sugar camp. Climax Just as Molly begins to recover, another white captive is brought to Genesee Town, named Josiah. Josiah runs and completes the gauntlet. Scene Molly accidentally gives away her location to some white people and has to move to Genesee Town. Then, she gets sick. Scene After being sick Molly finally gets to make a cooking pot of her own. She also is presented with a new gown. Resolution When a white man of high respect comes to offer Molly the chance to leave the Seneca, Molly decides to stay. After she receives the name Women-of- Great-Courage. Setting: Marsh Creek Hollow Seneca Town Genesee Town Wilderness ( All in Pennsylvania) Time: Early 1700s
