1. The Church Is Empowered by the Spirit How did Luke describe the coming of the Holy Spirit? How does the Holy Spirit manifest Himself in the lives of believers today? In your own words, describe the miracle that took place in Jerusalem on the day of Pentecost. How does this miracle show God’s desire for His gospel to go forth to the nations? How does Acts 1:8 reinforce this fact?

1. The Church Is Empowered by the Spirit What are some practical ways we can be a part of taking the gospel to the nations? What did the people hear in their own language? Through what means does the Spirit speak to people today? If we want the Spirit’s guidance, where should we look?

2. The Church Proclaims the Message of Christ In verses 17-21, Peter quoted the prophet Joel who prophesied of the signs and wonders that would accompany the coming of the Spirit. Why do you think Peter quoted the Old Testament? What “signs” helped convince you of the truth of the gospel? What are some examples of the confirmatory signs that were given in the life of Jesus?

2. The Church Proclaims the Message of Christ How does God confirm His truths in the heart of believers today? Using verse 38, summarize Peter’s message. Has this message changed for today’s church? If yes, how? If no, why not? How many people responded? Should we expect this many people to respond today? Is today’s church too numbers driven? Explain.

3. The Conduct of the Church After the addition of 3000 disciples, what priorities did the early church focus on? In what ways do churches carry out these priorities in our day? What things do churches sometimes put their attention into that might cause them to get distracted from these key priorities? Through whom did God perform the signs and wonders in the apostolic age? Why do you think this was the case?

3. The Conduct of the Church How did the early church make sure everyone’s needs were met? How can we meet each other’s needs in our day? What did the early believers do that demonstrated their closeness and fellowship? How could we deepen our fellowship here in our church?
