Presentation transcript:

Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. But exhort one another daily, while it is called To-day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end. Hebrews 3:12-14 (KJV)

See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness. We have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original conviction firmly to the very end. Hebrews 3:12-14 (NIV)

Listening Hebrews 3 Hebrews 4 As it was delivered to them

“Through nature, through types and symbols, through patriarchs and prophets, God had spoken to the world. Lessons must be given to humanity in the language of humanity... Christ must come to utter words which should be clearly and definitely understood. He the author of truth, must separate truth from the chaff of man’s utterance... The lessons of the Old Testament must be fully set before man.” –pg 34, DA, pub. 1890

“Accustomed as they had been in Egypt to material representations of the Deity... it was difficult for them to conceive of the existence or the character of the Unseen One. In pity for their weakness, God gave them a symbol of His presence: ‘Let them make Me a sanctuary,’ He said; ‘that I may dwell among them.’ Exodus 25:8” – pg35, Education, pub. 1903

Journaling Chapter 4 talks about a “rest” for those who follow. We are told to strive to enter into this rest. The text alludes to Christ’s words in Matthew 11: How might the rest spoken of by Christ and the one here in Hebrews be related? What rest might we to “strive” for? How can one work for a “rest”?
