Route to Journeyman Status If you want to become a certified red seal trades person you have 2 options Four Years of Education (Trade dependent) Work Experience and technical training.

Secondary School Apprentice (SSA) While attending school working under the guidance of a certified red seal apprentice. The opportunity to begin an “apprenticeship” while still in high school Earn high school credits for work under a Red Seal trades person or equivalent
Secondary School Apprenticeship(SSA) Work based training / learning 4 courses – 11a&b, 12a&b Each course = 120 hours 480 worked hours towards ticket ITA matches 480 hours = double hours towards ticket!!!
Secondary School Apprenticeship(SSA) ITA SSA Scholarship $1000 Grant Completion of SSA (480 hours) w/in 3 months of grad year Graduate with a Dogwood (regular grad) C+ average in grade 12 courses

Already working? Come see Mr. Fehst if you are already employed part time to see if your employment qualifies. If you don’t have a job and you are interested in the program come talk to Mr. Fehst and we will see if we can find you suitable employment in the Merritt area
Accelerated Credit Enrolment to Industry Training (ACE-IT) Students attend TRU, OC or NVIT Foundation program during their grade 12 year. SD 58 will pay the tuition, approx. $3000
ACE-IT Family is responsible for remaining fees, which vary by trade, but include: Living expenses Tools, learning guides, student fees Total $1400 to $2400 (approximately)
How? School District 58 students have reserved seating for TRU Foundations program (2 per trade if applying by the early registration deadline, May 2) We have 1 seat reserved in each of the OC trades programs Most recently, we have developed a partnership with NVIT where we also have reserved seating (5 seats).
TRU Foundations- Application Process First, meet with Mrs. Kuzio or Mrs. Musgrave to ensure that you have a grad plan. All mandatory academic courses should be completed before you leave for your program. (E.g. English 12, Math 11, Science 11, Socials 11, Planning 10, PE 10). Second, obtain an application from Mrs. Kuzio Student application portion 4 reference forms for you to hand out Counsellor form to be completed with Mr. Bowden
TRU Foundations- Application Process Completed applications are given to Mrs. Kuzio. From there we will send it to TRU for processing A letter of welcome will be sent from TRU with the next step instructions Students must successfully complete the Accuplacer Mandatory orientation at TRU
OC Application Process Meet with Mrs. Kuzio. Meet with Mr. Bowden to look at your grad plan Students fill out the regular application as found on the OC website. (print off a copy for the school) no earlier than one year prior to the program start date. Students need to sign a release of information form so the school can access records (marks, attendance). SD 58 will send a letter of sponsorship
NVIT Application Process Meet with Mrs. Kuzio. Meet with Mr. Bowden to look at your grad plan Fill out the regular application as found on the website or a paper copy. Ensure that we have a copy of your application for file purposes An Accuplacer may be required depending on the NVIT requirements
Applicant Expectations Students will: Attend all classes at MSS regularly Be on time for classes and come prepared to work Show a strong work ethic Show respect for their peers, teachers and learning environment. *Failure to meet these expectations could result in an application being denied by the Trades and Transitions Coordinator.
Post Secondary Expectations Students will: Attend all classes regularly Be on time for classes and come prepared to work Show a strong work ethic Show respect for their peers, teachers and learning environment. *Failure to meet these expectations could result in a student being removed from a post-secondary program.
Benefits ACE IT – student tuition is paid for. This cuts the cost of the first year in half.
