5 Air pollution – Greenhouse effect The atmosphere is polluted by exhaust fumes of cars and factories. Cars are the biggest polluters - they are main cause of bad air quality. Gases like carbon dioxide and methane are called „the greenhouse gases“. These gases trap the heat in atmosphere. This is known as the greenhouse effect.

6 Greenhouse effect - Global warming Greenhouse effect can bring the global warming. Global warming is the increasing of the temperature of Earth. If the air gets too hot, the balance of life on Earth will be disrupted. Scientists think that this can be dangerous for all of us.

7 Environmental organizations There are many organizations trying to protect our environment, for example: Greenpeace Friends of the Earth World Wildlife Fund Earth First

8 What can you do to protect the environment? If we want to protect the atmosphere we should use public transport more often because it is better for environment than cars. Going by bus helps reduce pollution. And it is better to walk or cycle whenever we can; it is very healthy and helps ecology.

9 What can you do to protect the environment? We shouldn´t be noisy in the woods, not pick flowers. We should never light fire in forests - trees will burn. We shouldn´t use fertilizers in the garden.

10 We shouldn´t buy pre-packed food – there is a lot of waste from it. We should use less washing up liquid - it pollutes the seas and rivers. We shouldn´t drop rubbish in the street - it looks and smells horrible.

11 What can you say about the problem of waste? People are producing more and more waste. This waste can pollute the ground, water and air. What can we do to help? We should remember the three Rs: Reduce! – Reuse! – Recycle!

12 Reduce! – Reuse! – Recycle! Reduce! Don´t buy things you don´t really need. By reusing things and materials we can cut down on the amount of waste.

13 Reuse! Plastic bottles or bags or whatever can be reused. Give old things you don´t need (such as clothes, toys, CDs) to charity. Share books, magazines, newspapers. Recycle! Recycling has a very important role in reducing pollution and protecting natural resources.

14 Recycling Separating of waste for recycling is very important. Sort out waste and put it into containers. Things for recycling: Paper - a lot of paper products can be made from recycled paper – newspapers, toilet paper, egg boxes.

16 What should be done to prevent wasting of energy in households? Every year people need more and more energy. To prevent wasting of energy: We should turn the heating down and dress warmer if we're cold.

17 We should save energy - switch off lights and other electrical appliances (TV, PC) when we're not using them. We should use energy-efficient products. We should use rechargeable batteries. We should save water (have a shower rather than a bath).

18 We can see that each of us could change our lifestyle to protect our planet.
