AMERICORPS NATIONAL CIVILIAN COMMUNITY CORPS (NCCC) NCCC Traditional Corps Team NCCC FEMA Corps Team

AMERICORPS NCCC Program Overview: 10-month national service and leadership program. Full-time, team-based, residential. For men and women ages Teams of 8-12 members meet critical needs in communities through short-term, 6-8 week intensive service projects. Must successfully complete 1,700 hours of service. Emphasizes discipline, physical conditioning, responsibility, and accountability. Campuses are located in Denver, CO; Vicksburg, MS; Sacramento, CA; Baltimore, MD; and Vinton, IA. Day to day supervision of the team is provided by a Team Leader NCCC, 1600 FEMA Corps each year Traditional & FEMA Corps

NCCC PROJECTS – Disaster Services Preparedness, response, recovery and mitigation. Clear debris, mucking and gutting, rebuild, coordinate volunteers, manage distribution centers, survey, rebuild homes. – Environmental Stewardship Tradition of 1930s Civilian Conservation Corps. Projects help preserve/enhance natural resources. Trail development, habitat restoration, plant trees, remove invasive vegetation, restore national park monuments. – Infrastructure Improvement Contribute to the safety and well-being of community. Repair and build structures, improve facilities and services, paint house numbers on curbs for easier location by emergency personnel. – Urban and Rural Development Address special needs, improve the quality of life for the citizens. Support homeless shelters, build playgrounds, revitalize neighborhoods. – Energy Conservation Promote energy efficient practices. Provide energy efficiency assessments, install energy efficient appliances and light bulbs, develop recycling programs, provide educational programming.

NCCC FEMA CORPS FEMA Corps began in 2012 as a track of AmeriCorps NCCC through a partnership between the Corporation for National and Community Service and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Corps Members are assigned solely to FEMA agencies to focus exclusively on emergency management and disaster response, preparation and long term recovery. FEMA assigns teams to projects.

FEMA CORPS PROJECTS Order materials, track inventory and supplies, and manage IT equipment Update electronic files and compile reports Work with nonprofits and government agencies to coordinate services for survivors Assess and report damage to public facilities Educate communities, assess needs, and collect information Help survivors complete applications for disaster assistance Setup shelters to re-unify families and pets

TEAM LEADERS Supervise, motivate, direct, and coordinate a team Manage team dynamics Coordinate project logistics Plan daily and weekly team schedules Serve as liaison between CMs and staff Ensure the safety of the CMs Model a good work ethic Develop CMs as leaders through service projects and team positions Duties and Responsibilities

U.S. Citizen or lawful permanent resident FEMA Corps: U.S. Citizenship years old TEAM LEADERS 18 years and up – no age maximum – leadership, communication, responsibility Medical and Legal Clearance – Drug and alcohol free environment No Education Requirement – High School Diploma or GED is NOT required, but preferred – Corps education levels diverse Desired Traits: – Flexibility – Motivation and Commitment – Work Ethic and Responsibility – Respect for Diversity – Team Player – Willingness and ability to serve long hours and perform physical labor NCCC ELIGIBILITY
