Ch.5 Water on Earth Review Game Get ready to play the stock market...

or lose it all! Where you take chances and either get rich…..

1)EVERYONE must participate! 2)You can only bet a max of half of your pot for each question 3)Only one whiteboard and marker on the table per team 4)Only one person writes per round so you MUST work together to share your knowledge! **REMEMBER: THINK!! DISCUSS (whisper)!! WRITE!! Get your cheeks out of your seats and put your elbows in so that other groups can not hear your answer First, here are the rules:

Max bet: Half of your stash… If the number is odd, round DOWN (example: $22.50= $22 if you do not want to use exact decimal values) OR… use decimals to find the exact half! AND WE ARE OFF!!! PLACE YOUR BETS!

Question #1: Which process of the water cycle is occurring when liquid water changes into water vapor?

If you guessed correctly, add your bet to your current total $ :) If you were incorrect, subtract your bet from your current total $ :( Answer #1: Evaporation

PLACE YOUR BETS!

What is an aquifer? Question #2:

If you guessed correctly, add your bet to your current total $ :) If you were incorrect, subtract your bet from your current total $ :( Answer #2: the layer of rock that holds groundwater

PLACE YOUR BETS!

What provides the energy needed for the water cycle to happen? Question #3:

The SUN! Answer #3:

PLACE YOUR BETS!

Where was the first kendama created? Question #4:

in France (in the sixteenth century!) then in Japan... Answer #4:

PLACE YOUR BETS!

What type of clouds extend vertically from low to high, and often cause storms? Question #5:

Thunderheads (or Cumulonimbus) Answer #5:

PLACE YOUR BETS!

Name the region in California that relies on aqueducts to transport water to its residents? Question #6:

Southeastern desert region of California (the Southern coast gets drinking water by piping it through a system of aqueducts) Answer #6:

PLACE YOUR BETS!

Where does most of the salt in oceans come from? Question #7:

it is carried in by rivers Answer #7:

PLACE YOUR BETS!

What is this called? Question #8:

Dalek...from Doctor Who Answer #8:

PLACE YOUR BETS!

Give an example of one way to recycle water Question #9:

use wastewater to water crops or water your lawn Answer #9:

PLACE YOUR BETS!

Why should people who live in Southern California try to conserve water? Question #10:

California is in a drought and fresh water is limited. We live in a dry area that may only get 10 cm of rain each year! Getting water to Southern California homes is not easy. Answer #10:

PLACE YOUR BETS!

Where is most of Earth’s water found? How is this different from drinking water? Question 11:

The Oceans Ocean water contains salt. Therefore, it tastes bad and is not healthy for drinking Answer 11:

PLACE YOUR BETS!

Which of the following types of precipitation (rain, sleet, snow, freezing rain) occurs when the temperature between the clouds and the ground is above freezing (32 degrees F, 0 degrees C) Question 12:

Rain Answer 12:

What is this guy’s name Question 13:

Manny! Answer 13:

PLACE YOUR BETS!

Explain, in detail, the process of the water cycle. Give definitions and examples of how each process works. Question 14:

It is a constant cycle. During evaporation, water in oceans, lakes, puddles, etc. changes into water vapor as it’s heated by the Sun. In condensation, air cools, then the water vapor turns into liquid droplets or ice crystals. Clouds are made up of these water droplets and ice crystals. As these grow, large, rain, sleet, or snow are formed and are released as precipitation. Answer 14:

PLACE YOUR BETS!

How can the water supply in a given area be extended? Question 15:

By using less or recycling Answer 15:

PLACE YOUR BETS!

True or false? Fresh water on Earth is limited. Provide proof to support your answer Question 16:

True only 3% of Earth’s water is fresh, and 2% of that is FROZEN Answer 16:

PLACE YOUR BETS!

What is happening to the air inside clouds when they grow vertically? Question 17:

The air is rising Answer 17:
