Mr. Tuttle

What I expect? Safety, Safety, Safety!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The energy to learn Self motivation Be on time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What you should expect To be taught the safe way to do things. To learn the proper way to weld To have a teacher that’s motivated to teach you to weld.

Class Rules Always be on time Respect others and their property No food or drinks allowed in classroom No swearing allowed No horse playing allowed

Safety Clothing The following safety clothing will be worn during class. Any student not following this safety procedure will be sent to his or her counselor.

#1 Long pants made of 100% cotton or wool that covers your socks and tops of shoes. No cord, suit, or athletic pants can be worn. Pants cannot be frayed or cuffed.

#2 Shirts must be long sleeves to protect the arms. Have a high button collar to protect the neck. Shirts must be long enough to tuck into pants to protect waist.

#3 Shoes must be leather have high tops to keep out sparks. They must have smooth tops to prevent sparks from burning top of welders feet.

#4 Welding hats must follow school rules. Caps should be thick enough to prevent sparks from burning the top of welders head.

#5 All clothing must be free of frayed edges or holes. The clothing must be relatively tight. Clothes must fit properly in order to prevent sparks from being trapped in seems.

#6 Butane lighters and matches are not allowed on campus or in the welding shop. They are subject to heat and sparks which may cause an explosion.

#7 Gloves must be used at all times during welding and cutting operations. Do not use gloves to pick up your metal, use your pliers.

#8 Protect your eyes at all times. When gas welding use a #5 lens, when arc, mig or tig welding use a #10 lens. When hammering, grinding, or use of power tools use clear safety glasses.

#9 Wool clothing is the best choice, but difficult to find. 100% cotton is a good 2 nd choice, and is the most popular material used. Synthetic materials including nylon, rayon, and polyester should not be worn because it can burn very easy, and produce a poisonous gas. Clothing must also stop ultra-violet rays from reaching skin. Dark clothing is the best in prevent this.

#10 No jewelry is allowed while in the shop. Jewelry can be very dangerous if caught in machines or if it gets burned.

Good luck this year.
