Physical properties are traits that involve a substance by itself. Examples: color, odor, texture, boiling point, freezing point What are physical properties of water?

Chemical properties are properties that involve how a substance interacts with other substances. Examples: What elements make it up, how does it react What are chemical properties of water?

A chemical change is a change that results in one or more new substances. Another term is chemical reaction Clues that you’ve seen a chemical change- color change, smell( rotting eggs), a new physical property (rust), Substance given off (smoke), heat or cold given off Name an example of a chemical change.

Milk goes sour Jewelry tarnishes Bread becomes toast Rust forms on metals Burning of a match Gasoline ignites Hydrogen peroxide bubbles in a cut Food scraps are turned in compost Match is ignited Antacid in your stomach Body digests food Fry an egg Bread rises

Cutting material (wood, paper, cloth, etc) Molded into new shapes (clay, mud, molten steel, etc) Butter is melted Water is boiled or frozen Rubbing alcohol or water evaporates Whipping egg whites (added air but still egg whites) Dissolving salt or sugar in water (still salt and water) Glowing of the element of an electric range Melting a sugar cube as opposed to burning a sugar cube

Name a physical property. Name a chemical property. What would be an example of a physical change? What would be an example of a chemical change?
