Product group definition Copying and graphic paper 1.The product group ‘copying and graphic paper’ shall comprise sheets or reels of unprinted paper which are used for printing or copying or writing or drawing. 2.Newsprint, thermally sensitive paper and carbonless paper are not included in the product group.

Criterion 1a: COD, Sulphur (S), NOx: Emissions to water and air The emissions of COD, S, and NOx must be compared to a reference value: P<1,5 Sum of P (COD, S, and NOx)< 3,0 Must be documented by the paper mill and all pulp used

Criterion 1b: AOX  AOX emission <0,25 kg/ADT  Must be documented by the paper mill and all pulps used

Criterion 1c: CO2 The emissions of carbon dioxide from non-renewable sources shall not exceed kg/t paper (1100 for non integrated mills) Must be documented by the paper mill

Criterion 2 a: Electricity The electricity consumption related to the pulp and the paper production shall be expressed in terms of points (PE). The number of points, PE, shall be less than or equal to 1,5. Must be documented by the applicant – information from pulp suppliers and paper mill

Criterion 2 b: Fuel (heat) Fuel (heat): The fuel consumption related to the pulp and the paper production shall be expressed in terms of points (PF) as detailed below. The number of points, PF, shall be less than or equal to 1,5 Must be documented by the applicant – information from pulp suppliers and paper mill

Criterion 3: Fibres Types of fibres (virgin and recycled) Virgin fibres: certified sustainable> 10% Virgin fibres: rest must be managed in a sustainable way

Criterion 4: Hazardous chemical substances Chemical lists from both paper mill and all pulps used (name, function, quantity and supplier) MSDS for all chemicals Use table from UM (annex 3)

Criterion 4a: Hazardous chemical substances - chlorine Chlorine gas shall not be used as a bleaching agent. This requirement does not apply to chlorine gas related to the production and use of chlorine dioxide. Information from the pulp producer

Criterion 4b: Hazardous chemical substances – APEO´s APEOs must not be added top specific chemicals Information from the chemical supplier – UM annex 3

Criterion 4c: Hazardous chemical substances – Residual monomers Residuals monomers assigned certain R- phrases must be less than 100 PPM Acryl amid less than 1000 PPM Information from the chemical supplier – UM annex 3

Criterion 4d: Hazardous chemical substances – surfactants in de-inking Surfactants in de-inking (>100g/ADT) must be readily biodegradable Surfactants in de-inking (<100g/ADT) must be readily or ultimately biodegradable Information from the chemical supplier – UM annex 3

Criterion 4e: Hazardous chemical substances – biocides The active components in biocides or biostatic agents shall not be potentially bio- accumulative. Information from the chemical supplier – UM annex 3

Criterion 4f: Hazardous chemical substances – Azo dyes Azo dyes shall not be used Information from the chemical supplier – UM annex 3

Criterion 4g: Hazardous chemical substances – dye stuffs Dye stuffs not R50, 51, 52 or 53 (or combination) Dye stuffs must contain max 2% of substances assigned the above R-phrases Exception if fixation is above 98% Information from the chemical supplier – UM annex 3

Criterion 4h: Hazardous chemical substances – metal complex dye Metal complex dye stuffs shall not be used Exception: Copper phthalocyanine Information from the chemical supplier – UM annex 3

Criterion 4i: Hazardous chemical substances – ionic impurities in dyes Ionic impurities in dye stuffs must not exceed the stated limits (eg Cd: 20 ppm) Information from the chemical supplier – UM annex 3

Criterion 5: Waste management Waste management according to local/national regulation Documentation from both paper mill and the used pulps.

Criterion 6: Fitness for use The product must be fit for use Documentation from applicant

Criterion 7: Information on the packaging Information about the EU criteria must be on the primary and secondary packaging Documentation from applicant

Criterion 8: Information appering on the eco-label Box 2 of the eco-label shall contain the following text:  ‘low air and water pollution  low energy use  harmful substances restricted’. Documentation from applicant
