Day & Night By: Jackie Flynn & Dani Conroy

The clock struck 12:00 everyone is asleep. The moon was wide awake but the sun was fast asleep. So the moon walked over to the sun and woke her up for the big fight! “Good morning sun,” said the moon. “And to you too sir,” said the sun smiling. “Ya’ll ready to lose?” Moon said smirking. “Oh no no no sir, I’m ready to win!” and so they began to fight.

Sun threw massive fireballs at moon and moon threw dusty craters at the sun. this fight declares who will rise and who will set. Sun threw her last fire ball and moon’s craters weren’t big enough to block it. The sun’s ball of fire hit moon and knocked him right out! The sun felt bad for the moon but she was glad she won.

Sun started to rise and when moon finally woke up he started to set. Its now 1:00 and daytime. Hours passed and the sun got higher in the sky, people started to wake up. Right now it is summer and the sun is blazing hot! Sun feels bad for the people but she just can’t help her heat. Luckily, only a few hours are left in the day. Many more steaming hot hours have past and its time for the night fight!

The sun quickly walks over to the moon and wakes him up. “ what did you do that for”? Moon said frowning.” Its time.” “ Time for what “? “ Time for the night fight.” So they set off to fight right away. This time moon’s craters were bigger than ever! They could block any fireball and knock the sun out cold. So obviously the moon won. The sun set sadly and the moon rose.

So it just so happens that the sun wins in the morning fight and the moon wins in the night fight. That’s why we have day and night. Sweet dreams.

The real reason we have day and night is because the earth rotates around the sun. The earth faces to the sun for 12 hours on one side and the earth and then rotates to the other side of earth and stays on that side for another 12 hours. So when you put the 12 hours of day and 12 hours of night you have a whole day (24 hours). Authors Note
