Smart Microcontroller- Based Blind Guidance System By Farzana Khan Section : 1 ID : CSE Department 1

What is Smart Microcontroller- Based Blind Guidance System? Simple, efficient, configurable electronic guidance system Determines material and shape of an obstacle Has typical response time about 39 ms High immunity to ambient light and color of object 2

Block Diagram of Smart Microcontroller- Based Blind Guidance System 3

How does it work? PIC Microcontroller 16F877A -Detect any switch triggered and generate the audio sound and vibrations -Consists of a processor core, memory and programmable input/output peripherals -Operates at +5v 4

How does it work? IR sensors -Obstacle categorization - New eyes for the blind -Scan all area in the range of IR beam -Detect distance and angle of body Reading IR Sensor output with A/D converter R=(2914/[v+5])-1 5

How does it work? Speakers -Blind can easily determine shape and material of surrounding bodies Vibration Motor Driver -Indicates how much closer the detected body isSwitches - -Control the range of the sensor 6

Comparison Blind Guidance System NavBelt System - Can detect more distant obstacles -Low power consumption -Cheap cost -Simplicity -Ease of customization -Precise range information of the obstacles -Difficulty in conveying information to the user -Must be used together with white cane -Cannot detect hidden obstacles -Exhibits difficulty to store it in a public place 7

Advantages: - No need for a huge device -No need for any special training -Accuracy of 93% Future work focus: - Replacing speaker’s tune by real human sound -Objects moving at different rotational speeds 8
