‘ART’ Reading Museum Group B: Michael Rzeznik & Tom Van Der Meulen

‘ART’ We chose this as our title because: The word ‘ART’ is a globally understood label. We had to use a general term due to the diverse audience that museums have. ‘ART’ with inverted commas is a simple way of showing that we are challenging an aspect of art and also contextualising it as well.

Plan We plan for our exhibit to have a visitor friendly approach, which caters to everyone and not just ‘Art Professionals’. We will be looking at the fixation of how we interpret art, using an alternative narrative, which is our subjective point of views on the objects. We are going to focus on two pieces within the museum. Such as artefacts, art etc. We plan to film the first object which highlights the idea of seeing and analysing. Using filming techniques like panning around the object to emphasise the way people enjoy art. The second object will be an audio piece which will talk you through the aspects of the object through an articulate analyse of the piece. These ideas will be subject to what The Museum of Reading can offer us space wise and technology wise.

The Reading Museum We chose this to be our destination for our exhibition because: the museum has a large collection of objects that we could possibly use, it also has an art collection. It is based centrally within Reading town centre therefore It caters to a diverse audience. It also has a visitor friendly approach, an approach that we intend to have within our work. Its also a institution that deals with aspects of our exhibition

Late at Tate There are many other exhibitions that have successfully dealt with similar subject matter, for example the 'Late at Tate' events which is funded directly by the national trust fund. 'Late at Tate' is where events are held within the gallery space changing the way you can see the art for example projecting over sculptural pieces within the Tate.

Marcel Broodthaers “Department of eagles” Marcel Broodthaers created a fictitious museum in Brussels in 1968, in which he organized exhibitions, publications, and films, which typically consisted of reproductions of works of art.

John Berger Programme based on “Ways of Seeing” The general assumption of the way that art should be viewed and analysed by the viewer

For example Duchamp’s ‘Urinal’ placing a non art object within a institution automatically engages the audience into a sense of articulate analyse and this is what we want to experiment within our exhibition.
