Step One Acknowledge information literacy as a key mission of Liberty University.

Liberty University Mission Statement 2. Foster university-level competencies in communication, critical thinking, information literacy, and mathematics in all undergraduate classes 3. Ensure competency in scholarship, research, and professional communication in all graduate programs and undergraduate programs where appropriate. Retrieved from August 4, 2015http://

Step Two Familiarize faculty with library services and resources available at JFL to assist in creating great assignments.

Faculty & Library Collaboration How can we serve you to help serve your students? What do we have to assist with your research? What resources we have available for your subject area? Where are resources located? Do we need to obtain resources for the topic of your assignment? What is information literacy?

Information Literacy is… Being able to locate, evaluate and effectively use information from various sources. Why is it important… IL is a skill that helps with all aspects of life not just an upcoming research paper. finding information on the internet is easy but knowing how to find the right information maybe difficult.

Information literacy asks … Is the information correct? Is this information current? Is this information relevant? Is this information trustworthy?

Information Literacy Information Literacy is about understanding information and building on what you already know. Information Literacy: Threshold Concepts take us into lifelong learning and apply it to a discipline, career, or in life. Help students not just remember for a paper but to put what they have learned into practice and apply the new knowledge.

Threshold Concepts 1.Authority is Constructed and Contextual 2.Information Creation as a Process 3.Information Has Value 4.Research as Inquiry 5.Scholarship as Conversation 6.Searching as Strategic Exploration

Faculty & Library Collaboration “Most libraries simply do not have enough staff to meet the goal of across-the- curriculum integration. A share with the teacher approach provides a realistic way of graduating more students who can find, evaluate, and use information to solve problems, make decisions, and continue to learn.” Retrieved June 16, 2015
